Unleashing the Power of Biofuels: Growth Energy CEO Offers Keynote Remarks at Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo |
This week, Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor delivered keynote remarks at the 38th annual International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo (FEW), highlighting the ways in which America’s bioethanol industry is opening new markets and advancing global clean energy ambitions. Skor also emphasized the energy security contributions of biofuels in the wake of global turmoil, with higher blends of bioethanol, like E15, serving as a shield against skyrocketing fuel prices, saving drivers almost $0.60 per gallon in some areas of the country.
“To get where we need to go as an industry, we need strong policy signals, and it’s up to us to show the world what we already know – that when it comes to competing on carbon, we win,” said Skor, who elaborated on Growth Energy’s work to expand access to E15, restore integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard, and support ongoing innovation in the bioeconomy.
“Thanks to the innovations underway by leaders in this room, America’s bioethanol industry is poised for success, delivering on a new wave of clean energy demand: on the ground and in the air, at home and abroad, in today’s vehicles and tomorrow’s,” added Skor. |
Also at this year’s FEW, Growth Energy Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley also spoke on panels exploring low-carbon transportation and fuel regulations, including a roundtable discussion on ethanol's role in a low-carbon future and a panel discussion on state and federal biofuel regulations. |

WEEKLY ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION DATA |
Last week, domestic ethanol demand was 14.1 BGY, down 1.2% compared to a week ago. The EIA-reported gas demand was down 1.2% from last week, at 139.4 BGY. The 4-week average ethanol and gas demand have been 14.0 and 138.2 BGY.
This week's supply draw appeared to be a bit of a surprise to market sources that were generally looking for little to no net supply change in EIA figures from last week. The gasoline demand increase seen in the last two weeks seems to be tied more to the Memorial Day holiday and fell back behind 2021 number from the same time last year. |

| Make Your Voice Heard on H.R. 7606 to Eliminate Seasonal Restrictions on E15 |
To address sky-high gas prices, the U.S. House of Representatives is voting on legislation today to increase access to lower-cost blends of biofuel at the pump. E15 blends of ethanol have been saving drivers as much as 60 cents per gallon — all while reducing emissions and supporting economic growth across rural America.
The House is scheduled to vote today on H.R. 7606, the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act. This bill would provide a permanent pathway to year-round E15 while also providing funds to help transition retail fuel locations to higher biofuel blends, two things that will benefit American drivers this summer and in years to come. We urge you to make your voice heard and call or send a letter to your Representative in support of this legislation. |
Growth Energy Supports Nomination of Doug McKalip for Key USTR Position |
CEO Emily Skor released the following statement in response to the Biden Administration’s nomination of Doug McKalip as Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
“Growth Energy strongly supports President Biden’s nomination of Doug McKalip as USTR Chief Agricultural Negotiator,” said Skor. “A level playing field for international trade is vital to the success and growth of our American agriculture and biofuels industries, and Mr. McKalip knows this well after decades of experience in public service, including in his current role at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
“We urge a swift confirmation of Mr. McKalip so he can lead USTR’s efforts to support the large role our rural communities play in the global economy, particularly in keeping costs down at the pump and decarbonizing the transportation sector. Once confirmed, we look forward to working with Mr. McKalip to maintain and open new global export markets for America’s biofuel producers and farmers.” |

Growth Energy Testifies Before CARB on Advanced Clean Cars II Regulation |
|
|
|
Growth Energy Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley testified before the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in response to its proposed Advanced Clean Cars II regulation. In his testimony, Bliley encouraged CARB to develop clear policies that reflect the reality that liquid fuels will continue to play an important role in the transportation sector for decades to come and maximize the carbon emissions benefits of biofuels. Such policies include the state’s approval of E15 fuel for cars on the road today and promotion of the use of E85 fuel for flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs).
|
|
|
“In the existing light duty fleet, higher bioethanol blends like E15 and E85 can be immediately deployed to achieve immediate GHG reductions, reduce harmful air toxics, and reduce consumer costs at the pump,” said Bliley. “With consumers facing record gas prices, E15 has consistently been less expensive than regular gasoline and has been available for up to 50 cents less per gallon at some locations in recent weeks. It is critical that California’s multi-media working group complete its evaluation of E15, so that it can be approved and made available to California drivers to further help the state achieve its carbon neutrality goals and immediately reduce consumer costs.

Growth Energy Supports Governors’ Efforts to Secure Permanent, Year-Round Access to E15 |
|
|
Governor Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) sent a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calling for parity between E10 and E15 fuels in Ohio through Section 211(h)(5) of the Clean Air Act. In his letter, Governor DeWine stated that “relying on annual emergency waivers for year-round sales of E15 is not a permanent solution for Ohio’s fuel retailers, consumers, or the environment.” |
| |
|
Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor released the following statement thanking Governor DeWine for his support of increased access to lower-cost, lower-carbon E15:
"We applaud Governor DeWine for joining the call to secure permanent, year-round access to cleaner, lower-cost E15 fuel. While President Biden’s recent moves to both lift restrictions on E15 fuel this summer and increase biofuel blending levels through the 2022 Renewable Volume Obligation (RVO) help reduce prices at the pump for American families, we need a permanent fix to protect access to E15 for next summer and beyond. “E15 is currently sold at 91 stations across Ohio and in more than 2,600 locations nationwide. Governor DeWine’s request would allow even more Ohioans to access this lower-cost fuel at the pump all while making a simple change for their environment, all year long. We look forward to Administrator Regan’s timely response on this issue.” |

Pushing Back on Tucker Carlson's Inaccurate Reporting |
"Tucker Carlson’s recent hit piece on the biofuels industry is as shameful as it is wrong. Higher blends of ethanol save American families money at the pump.
“Mr. Carlson’s inaccurate claims unsurprisingly pander to the oil industry, and ultimately do a disservice to Americans who are searching for lower cost, lower emission fuel options at the pump. At a time when oil prices are surging well over $100 a barrel and energy security is a top priority, it is unfathomable to see such an attack on American-made ethanol." |
