Growth Energy Supports Grassley’s Call on Administration to Clarify Stance on U.S. Ethanol Tariff

WASHINGTON – Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, released the following statement in support of Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) who is calling for clarification of the Obama Administration’s stance on imported ethanol following a statement from Thomas A. Shannon, Jr., nominated to be Ambassador to Brazil.

“I commend Senator Grassley for requesting clarification of the Obama Administration’s views on the U.S. tariff on imported ethanol. Senator Grassley is correct. It does not help our nation’s energy security to displace imported oil with imported ethanol. Further, eliminating the tariff will result in outsourcing green jobs from the U.S. at a time when unemployment rates are skyrocketing, and slow our nation’s efforts to become less dependent on foreign energy sources.”

“We have the capacity right here in the U.S. to produce enough corn for both feed and fuel. Ethanol is affordable and available now, and will help green our environment, enhance our national security and energy independence, and create good jobs here at home. We look forward to working with the Obama Administration and Congress to ensure we achieve these goals for our nation.”
