![]() No. 87, June 27, 2019 ![]() TOP STORY Growth Energy Hosts First Workshop For Mexican Fuel Retailers Today, Growth Energy is co-hosting our first workshop for Mexican fuel retailers alongside the Mexican Association of Service Station Equipment Providers. Protec Director of Project Management and Business Development Steve Walk is presenting to fuel retailers on lessons learned in growing the retail availability of ethanol fuel in the U.S., from E10 fuel over the past decade to E15 today.
These workshops are an important way to spread the expertise of American fuel retailers, producers, and ethanol experts with burgeoning markets around the globe. As nations consider adopting ethanol into their fuel supply, workshops like these can play a pivotal role in giving retailers in those countries the ammunition they need to prove the market value of fuel ethanol. Stay tuned for more in the coming months and our workshop series continues. For more details, contact Senior Vice President of Global Markets, Craig Willis.

July 6, Daytona, FL CSP Outlook Leadership Conference IN POLICY Congressional Committees Convene to Discuss Trade Last week, the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, the Senate Committee on Finance, and the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee all held hearings to address ongoing trade tensions. While the Senate Committee on Finance hearing was focused solely on the pending U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) agreement, the other two hearings addressed wide-ranging trade policy concerns alongside the USMCA, including the role that commodities like ethanol play in keeping America strong.
During the Senate Agriculture Committee hearing, U.S. Trade Representative Chief Agricultural Negotiator Gregg Doud was questioned about the role of goods produced from raw commodities, particularly biotech products, in keeping America competitive internationally. In his response, Doud underscored the weight that products like ethanol have in their approach to trade negotiations:
"We think about ethanol and meat and value-added opportunities every single day," said Doud. "The place in the world that gives us fits is no question the Europeans. They are actively fighting us every step of the way with regard to the use of technology."
As the impacts of ongoing trade tensions are felt throughout our nation, there is increasing attention being paid to reducing barriers to trade by our nation's lawmakers. We will continue to lead the industry in opening new markets for ethanol abroad and will keep you up-to-date with ongoing trade negotiations that impact the ethanol industry. For more details, contact Senior Vice President of Global Markets, Craig Willis. Biofuels Credit Bill Passes House Ways and Means Committee Last week, the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Relief Act of 2019 (HR 3301) passed the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee and now awaits consideration on the House floor. The package would extend the "second generation biofuel producer credit" through 2020. In doing so the bill provides a $1.01-per-gallon nonrefundable income tax credit for advanced biofuels sold for fuel use.
We will continue to keep you up-to-date on the progress of this package. For more details, contact Vice President of Government Affairs, John Fuher.
IN OUR ASSOCIATION Growth Energy Presents Biofuels Curriculum to Ag Educators ![]() Last week, our Vice President of Development Kelly Manning, alongside POET's Vice President of Corporate Affairs Doug Berven, launched the first in a series of Ethanol 101 workshops that Growth Energy will host to introduce agricultural educators to biofuels and discuss its critical relationship with agriculture.
Held in Mitchell, SD, educators from Region Three of the Six State Region, were given a brief overview of ethanol and its role in the agricultural value chain, as well as being introduced to our new Biofuels Curriculum for high school students. Over the next two years, Growth Energy team members will hold additional workshops to help spread the word about biofuels like ethanol and provide resources, like our new curriculum, for the classroom.

MARKET DEVELOPMENT CSD Magazine: Engine Experts Recommend E15 With year-round sales of E15 now allowed across the nation, the popularity of the fuel blend continues to grow daily. Engine experts consistently agree that E15 is not only a more-affordable, higher-octane fueling option at the pump, but that it is good for engines. Convenience Store Decisions (CSD) Magazine interviewed fuel experts earlier this month to discuss the myriad benefits of higher blends of ethanol fuel for drivers and their vehicles, and to highlight its growing retail availability.
“I am amazed at the shift of customers choice to higher ethanol-blended fuels. Less than five years ago it was not available here,” said Minnoco repair consultant Steve Anderson. “Today it has a loyal following and is a large contributor to our overall volume. We have seen great success in offering Unleaded88 to our customers. Once they understand that they are getting more octane for less money, they continue to reach for it at the pump again and again.”
