AT THE PUMP

American Drivers Log 7 Billion Miles on E15 Fuel

American drivers continue to rely on earth-friendly and engine-smart E15 to fuel their lives. Consumers across the U.S. have logged a total of 7 billion miles on the fuel and shown the resounding success of E15, a fuel blend that contains 15 percent ethanol. E15, which is sold as Unleaded88 or Regular88 at most retail locations, is a win for anyone looking for a better choice for the environment and their engines. This renewable fuel burns cleaner and cooler than regular gasoline, and saves drivers up to 10 cents on average per gallon with each trip to the pump.

Today, major retailers like Kwik Trip, Sheetz, Casey’s, Cumberland Farms, Thorntons, Kum & Go, RaceTrac, QuikTrip, Rutter’s, Minnoco, Protec Fuel, Murphy USA, and Family Express offer E15 at more than 1,700 stations across 30 states, and that number will continue to grow.

Share your photos of fueling up with E15 with us using the #NextBillion hashtag on social media!

Washington State Legislature Holds Executive Consideration Hearing on Low Carbon Fuel Standard

As you may recall from last week's Rundown, the State of Washington has begun consideration of low carbon fuel standard legislation. The House Committee on Environment and Energy has now scheduled the legislation for executive consideration today to evaluate its merits.

On January 10th, Representative Fitzgibbon, Chairman of the House Environment and Energy Committee, introduced House Bill 1110 which would require the Washington Department of Ecology to establish a rule that would reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuel by 10 percent by 2028 and 20 percent by 2035 (compared to 2017 levels). The Committee held its first hearing on the legislation on January 15th, where we presented testimony through our legislative consultant on the ground in Washington. In addition to the House bill, the Washington State Senate has introduced its companion legislation, SB 5412, which has not yet been scheduled for a hearing.

The text of the House legislation and bill summary can be found here, and its analysis can be found here. Growth Energy will continue to keep you up to date on the process of this legislation and all other important regulations under consideration.

Growth Energy to Speak at N.Y. Corn and Soybean Growers Winter Expo

Today, Growth Energy Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley is speaking at the New York Corn and Soybean Growers Winter Expo along with Tim Winters, President and CEO of Western New York Energy. Chris and Tim are discussing the importance of ethanol as a market for New York farmers, and in particular about the opportunity to change the state’s regulations to allow sale of E15.

Growth Energy is committed to engaging with our industry allies and agricultural partners to ensure strong support for biofuels around the country.

Senate EPW Committee to Vote on Nomination of Andrew Wheeler in February

Last week, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) held a hearing on the nomination of Andrew Wheeler for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator. The committee has announced it will reconvene early next month to vote on Wheeler's nomination, after taking time to consider his comments and testimony during the initial hearing.

During the hearing, Wheeler was pressed on a number of issues including the upcoming E15 rulemaking. He reassured committee members that the rulemaking process would be completed in time for the summer driving season if the government shutdown ended in a "reasonable" amount of time.

Growth Energy will continue to engage with Congress and with agencies like EPA to promote our industry.
