EIA Weekly Ethanol Report – Record-High Production Hits 17.2 BGY as Demand Slips (Oct 31, 2025)

Last week, domestic ethanol demand was 14.1 BGY, down 0.6% compared to a week ago. The EIA-reported gas demand was down 0.6% from last week, at 136.0 BGY. The 4-week average ethanol and gas demand are 13.8 BGY and 133.0 BGY (-2.1% YoY).

Ethanol production was 17.2 BGY last week, up 2.9% versus the week before, and 12.7% more than the 4-week average in 2019. Weekly production set a record, besting the previous record of 17,170 MGY the week of June 6, 2025. Midwest production was up 2.4% (+7.4 MG) versus a week ago, and average production in the other regions was up 12.7% (+2.1 MG) mainly on the Gulf Coast. Capacity utilization of plants online was 95.8% overall, 96.7% in the Midwest, and 83.6% on average, elsewhere, excluding 1,258 MGY of capacity shutdown at 25 ethanol plants for other than maintenance. On an installed capacity basis, utilization was 89.6% overall, 94.0% in the Midwest and 49.5% in the other regions.

Exports were an estimated 40.6 MG last week based on 180 MG forecast for October. The EIA reported no ethanol imports last week.

Overall inventory was up 15.8 MG last week. EIA-counted stocks increased 12.1 MG, and regional changes were: East (+5 MG), Gulf (+1 MG) and West (-8 MG) Coasts and the Midwest (+15 MG). In-transit inventory levels increased 3.7 MG.

Based on the total inventory of 1,318 MG on October 31st and the 4-week avg. domestic demand, there were 34.4 days of supply, up 0.4 days from a week ago. Including the 4-week avg. of net exports, there were 29.8 days of supply, up 0.3 days from a week ago.
