Growth Energy: Energy Bill Should Promote Greater Access to America’s Fuel

WASHINGTON, DC – Growth Energy, the coalition of U.S. ethanol supporters, released the following statement after an announcement by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that the Senate will move a limited energy bill next week.

“While the energy proposal that Leader Reid outlined yesterday seems to be limited to only a few items, we hope that the leader and the Senate takes this opportunity to add measures to reduce our nation’s addiction to foreign oil,” said Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis. “Just two years ago our economy was dealt another jolt with record gasoline prices. And this has happened time and time again over the past 40 years. We urge the Leader and his fellow Senators to include measures to build out the infrastructure for greater use of home-grown ethanol. Ethanol is America’s fuel, grown by America’s farmers and produced by American workers. And ethanol is not a someday fuel – it is the only viable alternative we have today to imported oil. Ethanol reduces our dependency on foreign oil, strengthens our national security, creates jobs that cannot be outsourced and improves our environment.”
