Growth Energy Applauds Legislation That Increases Ability of Biofuels to Improve Our Energy Future

Today, Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis released a statement on H.R. 2409, the Renewable Fuel Standard Improvement Act:

“I commend Chairman Peterson, Ranking Member Lucas and the bipartisan coalition of 42 Members for their far-reaching vision of an America powered by homegrown renewable fuels. Growth Energy strongly believes in the promise of ethanol and other renewable fuels to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil. However, last-minute provisions inserted into the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act that were never debated by Congress, threaten to derail progress made by biofuels in greening our environment, increasing our national security, creating green-collar jobs, and breaking our nation’s addiction to foreign oil. The law requires EPA to measure indirect land use changes in other countries, where we have no control over what they produce or the amount they produce on their farms. Furthermore, the proposed EPA rule is not based on universally accepted science and modeling. To proceed with this flawed concept would have a devastating impact on our nation’s move to produce home-grown, green fuel right here in America. For too long our nation has relied on foreign oil and has time and again suffered the economic consequences by not moving forward. I urge the passage of this important legislation.”
