Growth Energy Staff Attends Swearing-In Ceremonies on Capitol Hill; House Speaker Debate Continues
Growth Energy staff attended the swearing-in ceremonies of many newly-elected officials earlier this week, welcoming them to the U.S. Senate while the U.S. House of Representatives continued to vote to elect a new Speaker of the House. While the Senate is now in place, the House won't begin business until it chooses a Speaker, meaning we won't know who will head certain key committees until after the election is finalized. As always, Growth Energy is in touch with its champions on Capitol Hill about what's to come from the new Congress and we will continue to keep you posted on further developments.

EPA Releases Triennial Report on Environmental Impact of Biofuels
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a draft of a statutorily-required triennial report on the environmental impact of biofuels this week. The report itself makes a number of uncertain claims about how biofuels impact the environment but, notably, does not attempt to account for the positive impacts biofuels have on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). Now that the report has been published a 60-day comment period begins and Growth Energy has already begun work on its response which is due on March 6. We will continue to keep you updated as we examine the details of the report. In the meantime, you can read the full report here.

ICYMI: Senate Confirms Alexis Taylor as USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs and Doug McKalip as USTR Chief Agricultural Negotiator
Just before leaving town for the holiday last month the U.S. Senate officially confirmed Alexis Taylor as the USDA's new Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, then went on to confirm Doug McKalip as the U.S. Trade Representative's Chief Agricultural Negotiator. Both nominations received widespread support from the industry (including from Growth Energy) but languished in the Senate for most of 2022. Luckily, these two positions are now filled and Growth Energy can begin to work with both officials directly on promoting the U.S. biofuels industry in the global market.
