Washington, D.C. – Today, Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor welcomed the introduction of two pieces of pro-biofuels legislation led by the co-chairs of the Congressional Biofuels Caucus: The Adopt Greenhouse Gas and Regulated Emissions and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) Act, sponsored by Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.), and the Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Investment and Market Expansion Act, sponsored by Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa).
“Both the Adopt GREET Act and the Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Investment and Market Expansion Act encourage nationwide use of biofuels like ethanol and promote their proven environmental benefits as Congress and the Administration find ways to immediately decarbonize the transportation sector. The bicameral and bipartisan support of each bill underscores the shared sentiment that biofuels’ role in reducing carbon emissions remains critical to some of today’s climate change challenges.

The Adopt GREET Act is the House companion to Senators Thune (R-S.D.) and Klobuchar’s (D-Minn.) Senate legislation and would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update its greenhouse gas (GHG) modeling for ethanol and biodiesel to accurately reflect the GHG reductions achieved by biofuels.
The Renewable Fuel Infrastructure Investment and Market Expansion Act would require EPA to finalize proposed rules that would eliminate onerous labeling and underground tank requirements that limit access to E15. It would also authorize $500 million over five years for infrastructure grants, building on successful programs like the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Biofuel Infrastructure Partnership (BIP) and the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP).
