Growth Energy Commends Secretary Vilsack for Meeting 30-Day Presidential Biofuels Directive

WASHINGTON – Tom Buis, CEO of Growth Energy, released the following statement in response to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack’s announcement that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) met its 30-day deadline set by President Obama in his Presidential Biofuels Directive to advance renewable fuels.

“Within 30 days, Secretary Vilsack and his team at USDA have made significant progress in helping our nation produce more renewable energy from clean, green, homegrown sources which will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, increase our national security, create more green-collar jobs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Secretary Vilsack’s steps provide critical support to America’s ethanol producers. USDA expedited the biofuels provisions of the energy title in the 2008 Farm Bill which will encourage production of next-generation biofuels, make existing biorefineries greener and expand the Rural Energy for America Program. We applaud the Obama administration following through on its commitments to advance our nation’s only alternative to foreign oil and we commend Secretary Vilsack for his progress in advancing biofuels.”
