Next Week: The 15th Annual Growth Energy Biofuels Summit |
Growth Energy's Annual Biofuels Summit officially kicks off next week! More than 100 Growth Energy members will gather in Washington, D.C. for panel discussions, guest speakers and meetings with members of Congress and their staff to share the economic and environmental benefits of biofuels.
For 15 years now, the Growth Energy Biofuels Summit has served as bioethanol’s premier advocacy event, and this year promises to live up to that title, with presentations from industry leaders and key administration officials, including U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan. Check out the rest of the agenda below. |

The week of August 19 domestic ethanol demand was 14.6 BGY, up 1.2% compared to the week before. The EIA-reported gas demand was up 1.2% from the prior week, at 142.7 BGY. The 4-week average ethanol and gas demand are 14.3 and 139.9 BGY (+1.1% YoY).
Ethanol production was 16.4 BGY the week of August 19, down 2.5% versus the week before, and 3.3% more than the 4-week average in 2019. Midwest production was down 2.5% (-7.6 MG) versus a week before, and average production in the other regions was down 1.7% (-0.3 MG) mainly in the Gulf Coast. Capacity utilization of plants online was 91.4% overall, 92.5% in the Midwest, and 76.5% on average, elsewhere, excluding 1,027 MGY of capacity shutdown at 22 ethanol plants for other than maintenance (details on pg. 31). Rep. Balderson Visits Three Rivers Energy
|
Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), second from right, at Three Rivers Energy in August. |
Last month, Congressman Troy Balderson (R-Ohio) toured Three Rivers Energy in Coshocton, Ohio. A member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Balderson has been vocal on his support of an all-of-the-above energy approach, and our team has been working with his office to ensure that includes biofuels. |
During his tour, Rep. Balderson and the Three Rivers Energy team discussed carbon capture technology, 45Z, and the opportunities they open for American agriculture. |
Send Us Photos of E15 Cost Savings in Your Area |
Summer has come to a close, but we're still urging you to fill up with lower-cost, lower-carbon E15 (Unleaded 88) at the pump!
We must continue to make our argument for year-round E15 to the EPA, on Capitol Hill, and in state legislatures around the country. We've found that a picture really is worth a thousand words. Next time you fill up with E15, take a picture (like the one above) and share it with us! We'll put your photos to good use telling the story of how E15 saves drivers money. Email them to hcullen@growthenergy.org.

Calif. Governor Calls for Special Legislative Session to Deal with High Gas Prices |
The above photo shows gas prices in Manhattan Beach, Calif. in July 2024. |
California Governor Gavin Newsom called for a special session of the state legislature last week for the express purpose of addressing gasoline price spikes. Notably, California is the only state in the U.S. where the sale of E15 is not permitted, despite the fact that E15 often retails for $0.30 less per gallon than standard E10 (and, in some cases, up to a dollar less per gallon).
Growth Energy has continually urged the Golden State to allow the sale of E15, most recently in comments submitted to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) about proposed updates to California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard.
"California remains the only state to have not approved this cost-effective, environmentally beneficial fuel that can be used in nearly all the state’s 31 million gasoline-powered vehicles. If CARB not only approved E15, but replaced E10 with E15, this switch would be responsible for the greenhouse gas (GHG)-reduction equivalent of removing more than 400,000 ICE vehicles from California’s roads without negatively impacting California drivers," said Growth Energy Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley in the comments. "We urge CARB to complete the analysis of and approval process for E15 so that Californians can take advantage of this more affordable, cleaner burning fuel that can be used to power more than 96% of the light duty vehicles on the road today."

Upcoming: Summit Pipeline Public Informational Meetings |
As a reminder, the Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) will host public informational meetings in 23 counties across the state regarding the expansion of the carbon pipeline to be built by Growth Energy Member Summit Carbon Solutions. The meetings are an important opportunity for residents to learn more about the project, the benefits of carbon capture, and the steps Summit is taking to ensure safety and environmental protection.
Here are the next upcoming meetings. To view the full slate of meeting dates, click here. |
