TOP STORY Leaving No Stone Unturned for RVP Fix In July, when the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the 2019 EPA rule that lifted outdated restrictions on the sale of E15, we committed to a multi-pronged approach to address this issue before it takes affect for the 2022 summer driving season. Almost two months later, we're making good on that promise. In a recent interview with S&P Global, Growth Energy's Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley shared an update on how we're turning over every stone in the fight to end the summertime ban on E15.
"We're trying to turn over every stone because this is so important for higher biofuel blends," Bliley said, noting that industry groups are pursing a legal remedy through the court system, legislative action on Capitol Hill and regulatory solution with the EPA.
"We're going to do everything we can to provide as much certainty as we can to retailers to be able to sell these higher blends through this summer driving season, and then get a solution in place before next summer," he said. IN GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Skor Says: Oil-State Senate Letter on RFS is Nothing New In an interview this week with AgriTalk radio, CEO Emily Skor was asked about a recent letter from oil-state Senators calling on President Biden to lower biofuel blending obligation levels. In response, Skor called the letter "a copy and paste from every letter they've been sending for 16 years. It's the same argument, except this time they are adding in COVID as pretext which, frankly, is shameful.
"It's the same old political argument of, we want you to reduce the RFS. It's frustrating when you consider that we are the way to clean up fossil fuels." IN REGULATORY AFFAIRS Growth Energy’s Bliley Testifies Before EPA on Proposed Emissions Standards Yesterday, Growth Energy’s Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley testified before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during its hearing on the proposed rulemaking, Revised 2023 and Later Model Year Light-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards.
Earlier this month, the EPA and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) proposed greenhouse gas standards to further decarbonize light-duty vehicles starting in model year 2023. In response, Growth Energy called for an increase in the use of low-carbon, sustainable biofuels like ethanol in our nation’s fuel supply.
Yesterday, Bliley echoed that sentiment before EPA. In his testimony, Bliley urged EPA to consider the vital role that environmentally sustainable fuel options such as ethanol will play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the current and future vehicle fleet.
“We appreciate EPA’s work to reshape the nation’s transportation mix to make it more sustainable as it is a central driver for our industry as well. Vehicles and fuels operate as a system and liquid fuels will continue to play a dominant role in the transportation sector for decades to come, even as alternative technologies flourish. As such, it is imperative to consider the vital role that environmentally sustainable fuel options such as ethanol will play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the current and future vehicle fleet.”

Southeast Asia and Oceania Webinar: Ethanol: Decarbonization of Transport Fuel in the Bioeconomy Growth Energy joined the U.S. Grains Council and Bioenergy Australia for a webinar for an audience in Southeast Asia, Australia, and Oceania, highlighting the latest on ethanol’s role in the long-term decarbonization of the transport fuel sector.
The webinar, featuring Growth Energy's Chris Bliley, aimed to showcase how studies and policies in Australia, the United States, and the Philippines have shown the aid in decarbonizing the transportation system through the use of ethanol. This panel served as part of Growth Energy's larger efforts to support ethanol growth around the globe. For more information, please contact Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Chris Bliley. IN THE RING Bellator MMA Comes to Sioux Falls, Features Get Biofuel Last week, Bellator's MMA fight took place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, showcasing our Get Biofuel campaign and message. The main event featured South Dakota native Logan Storley who, seen in the photo above, featured the Get Biofuel logo on his shorts, shirt, and fight banners during Friday's fight.
"I'm a longtime partner of and advocate for the biofuels industry. Given my upbringing on the farm, not only do I recognize the importance of biofuels for the rural economy, I've also learned a lot about their benefits to drivers and the environment," Storley said.
"“I’m especially excited about the Get Biofuel campaign because it focuses on proving there’s a cleaner way to fuel. As an athlete, it’s critical for me to fuel my body in a clean way to enhance my performance, and drivers can do the same thing for their vehicles by choosing biofuels at the pump.”
MMA fighters have a long history of spreading the word on the benefits of ethanol and using their large digital followings to so. For MMA, biofuels helps "fuel the fight". Be sure to visit www.getbiofuel.com/mmateam to learn more and follow along on social media to help fight for the planet.
