No. 84, June 6, 2019 TOP STORY EPA Approves Year-Round Sale of E15 in Historic Win For Ethanol Industry After over a decade of hard work by Growth Energy, our congressional champions, retail partners, and members, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the rule last Friday to allow the sale of E15 ethanol blended fuel all year-round!
“We are grateful to President Trump for delivering on his promise to unleash the power of E15 all year-long,” said Skor following EPA's announcement. “The approval of year-round E15 is an incredible milestone for the biofuels industry, and the result of over a decade of hard work by Growth Energy, our members, our congressional champions, and folks all across rural America who made their voices heard."

Growth Energy Applauds House Letter in Support of Advanced Biofuels Tax Credits This week, Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) led 18 members of the House of Representatives in sending a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee in support of extending the second-generation biofuel producer tax credit, which includes biofuels like those from corn kernel fiber.
Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor applauded Rep. Fineknauer for recognizing the importance of extending these tax credits: “Advanced biofuels, such as cellulosic ethanol, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 100 percent. It’s critical that as our nation looks to reduce its carbon footprint, we encourage advancements in technology for corn kernel fiber. Extending the Second Generation Biofuel Producer Tax Credit allows the biofuels industry to continue leading the way in corn kernel fiber innovation and towards cleaner and more sustainable fuel options. We thank Representative Finkenauer and her colleagues for their support on this initiative and for paving the way towards future investments in green energy solutions.”

IN REGULATIONS RFS Reset and RVO Rules With OMB For Review Last month, the proposals for the annual Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) and the pending RFS 'reset' were delivered to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). We expect to see the proposal for the 2020 RVO released in the next couple of weeks, while we expect the RFS “reset” proposal later this summer.
Following the final rule from EPA allowing the sale of E15 fuel year-round, these two rulemaking processes will be critical in keeping the RFS and biofuels strong going into the rest of the year and beyond and we will remain engaged with EPA during the rulemaking process. Alongside stemming the handout of unfair small refinery exemptions (SREs) to big oil, these two rules will be central to our efforts in 2019.
Stay tuned for more on our engagement with these rules. Minnesota to Hold Public Meetings on Decarbonizing Transportation The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Great Plains Institute are holding a series of public meetings on decarbonizing transportation in the state. There are meetings today in Duluth, as well as meetings on June 11th in Marshall and June 12th in Rochester.
We encourage anyone who is able to attend to go to make their voice heard for higher biofuel blends as a ready-made solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in transportation, as a way to improve air quality, and as a way to benefit Minnesota’s farm economy.
